After reading a few other comments I guess I find myself in the minority. I suppose when I pop into a local Thai joint for a $10 dinner, I don't expect for my fried rice meal to be presented on a hand made plank with garnish cut into a swan with a razor blade. Did it taste good? Yes. I disagree with James B. on the heat factor of the Pad S'ewe. That is my fiance's go-to Thai dish and she also ordered medium heat and got the kick she was looking for. I sampled as well, and compared to Penn's (where we ate a few weeks ago) the kick was 10x better...review of Penn's to follow. We also ordered a spring roll each and I'm not sure how Janelle W. would proposed a single spring roll be served. They brought it out, it was hot, it was delicious, it was $1.50, the end. I'm not going think twice because it came on small plate with the standard pink sauce. Maybe they should charge more and waste lettuce or garnish. Maybe my expectations of Thai restaurants are much lower. Aren't most of them hole-in-the-wall types who focus on taste and cost rather than a 5 star dining experience? I realize I might not be making friends but I had a pleasant experience and thought the food tasted good, which to me is most important. I think I would go back to Ahan over Thai on Main or the place whose name escapes me on Washington St., that very small inside and devoid of any decor. Other comments about the meal...I went with a fried rice and mixed veggie plate with chicken. I thought the rice was great, the heat was hot as requested, and the veggies were nice a big. I hate getting baby corn that looks like a little yellow candy corn. Here the pieces were large and didn't include the sometimes off-putting pointy ends. We got another app which was pretty solid but I forget the name. I recently had Penn's on 14 and Crooks which was great, also 4 star (could have been 5 if not for some mistakes), but I think if I find myself already in downtown RO or don't feel like taking a longer drive, Ahan Thai might be a new venue in the RO rotation.

Loved it here. Fantastic curry rice and spring rolls, best Thai we have had in downtown ro since we moved up 2 years ago. Medium spice had some kick so if you can't handle the heat go with the minimum.

I ordered the fresh rolls, hot and sour soup and panang curry. Every dish I ordered was pretty bad. The fresh rolls contained too many cilantro stems and both the hot and sour soup and panang curry were very watery and runny. My friend ordered the Ahan Thai noodle special. He couldnt stomach more than one bite. The noodles were almost impossible to separate. The only reason I gave them 2 stars was because the waitress kept our water glasses full. I highly recommend choosing Thai Cafe instead. I'm shocked that this place is still in business.

From the outside, this place is adorable. On the inside, it's still pretty cute. I have to say the food is pretty good. I do agree that having everything on one plate is not my favorite way to eat Thai. For one, you get more freedom in mixing when the parts are served separately. Moreover, it's harder to eat when one plate is piled with everything and you have no room to maneuver around your food. Aside from that, Ahan is pretty good. The food isn't the best I've had, nor is it the worst. I think I need to go back and order some more items off the menu, possibly some noodle dishes, which I have yet to try there. I would give this place 3.5 stars, but I round down because nothing stands out aside from how it looks like a cute little hut. Outside looks aren't what keep customers coming back though.

I have been to this place with my girlfriend numerous times and have always loved what I had. I usually get the Pad Sewee or Drunken Noodles and have always felt it was delicious. My girlfriend has gotten the Pad Thai and has loved it. Small, cozy place to have a meal and the staff is really friendly. Probably the best place for cheaper Thai in Royal Oak.

With some notable exceptions, I don't review restaurants that I find truly abhorrent 1.) so I don't have to relive the nightmare, and 2.) a lot of the restaurants I rate so low seem to be the more popular restaurants around here (see review of Ocean Prime or Mitchell's) and I don't like to rain on anyone's parade, unless I'm feeling particularly saucy. I usually need a compelling reason to publicly bash some place. Ahan Thai offers no such reason, but I'm gonna bash it anyway (in as nice a way possible of course... we're talking about the livelihood of the workers after all). I've been past Ahan Thai on many an occasion but had never gone in primarily because when I looked through the windows, I almost invariably saw an empty restaurant, or if there were diners, there were none of the Asian persuasion. Never good signs in my book (please see review of East Lake if you are confused). In a fit of culinary boredom, I decided to get my dinner from AT just to see if my suspicion about the mediocrity of the food was justified. Indeed, it was. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I had my food delivered to home. I therefore cannot speak about the previously mentioned stark presentation or the indifferent service. It does free me to speak solely about the food however. In regard to the food, the one word that I can think of is "Meh". The Tom Kha Gai soup was OK. I do find it particularly sad when the highlight of the meal is the soup, and that was pedestrian at best. The Massaman curry was strangely very sweet. I don't know if it was the addition of carrots (I've never seen that before) to the dish or what, but it left my taste buds a bit confused. The Pad S'ewe, while ordered medium spicey (my GERD doesn't allow me to order hot right now), but was totally devoid of any heat. I could see the chopped Thai pepper on the noodles but there was nothing, zippo, nada... for spice. The most disappointing dish (which ironically is probably the easiest to prepare) was the Kow Pad Gra Prow (Thai Basil fried rice). Seriously, how hard is it to make fried rice?! OK, maybe the addition of basil throws everything off kilter. I say maybe, because there was only a couple of dried basil flakes seen in my fried rice, which I swear tasted like oregano. This dish is usually made with fresh Thai basil that tastes like basil. I suppose if I were given a choice to eat at Ahan Thai, Little Tree, or (God forbid) Quattro, I'd go with Ahan Thai, though they'd probably have to be the last restaurants on earth.

absolute yuck! my pad thai medium was like general chow sweet and sour and was almost all sauce without any vegetables or noodles. wont be back

I used to be biased to the Thai restaurant in Royal Oak I would dine at, until a friend of mine let me in on a little secret, Ahan Thai. This gem of a restaurant offers some of the best Thai food in the local area. Ahan is my go to restaurant when I'm hungry and I don't know where to go-the food is incessantly awesome. I often dream about their Drunken Noodles, egg noodles with green pepper and basil is a perfect combination of sweet and spicy. Add a few spring rolls with plum sauce and you've got an authentic and absolutely appeasing meal. The restaurant's décor is simple, but inviting and the staff is friendly. The prices are beyond reasonable. I recall ordering an obnoxious amount of food with chicken, tofu, and pork in it to take to band practice and the bill was stunningly cheap. I sometimes wonder how this joint stays open. But when you offer quality food at quality prices, I suppose it's simple.

Before visiting Ahan Thai, I never paid much attention to the way Thai food was presented. Y'know how Thai joints always put the saucy part in a deep bowl, then put the rice in a shallower dish? That allows you to pour sauce or stew over your rice, or dump your rice in the stew. Ahan puts it all on a flat plate, which means soaking up the stew or sauce becomes next to impossible. A lot of curry gets wasted. I found myself patting down layers of rice on top of my yellow curry to soak some flavor from the plate into my mouth. On the other hand, most tofu dishes were around $9, which is reasonable for Royal Oak. And the service was solid.

"Lackluster" is the word that keeps coming to mind when I think about this place. There are so many things that leave you with the impression that the people here aren't really trying. The last time I was there, I sat at the over-sized, waste-of-space, nonfunctional, bar-like impedance to order carry out. The waitress/hostess/only-person-working-the-front was pleasant enough but, seemed to not know or care about the food served there. As I waited for my orders, I thought I could hear dripping sounds emanating from somewhere near the wall that separates the kitchen from the dining area. Upon further investigation, I saw the source. An ice machine had an exposed line that emptied into a shallow bowl built into the tiled floor. This may seem like a small point but, should a customer be able to see (or hear) this sort of drainage system from the dining area? Methinks not. I agree with what has been said about the plating presentation; it is completely confounding. Ordering out does solve the problem though. This place seems to be content with snagging the few uninitiated castoffs from the many other eating choices in RO. My advice, don't be a part of that statistic and just don't bother.

I ordered the Pad Thai. Zero flavor. There's really not much more to say. My first experience will be my last. If you're craving Thai, I'd go somewhere else.

Shopping downtown - Friends in from Chicago. Starving - stopped in with no expectations. Wasn't too crowded - outside menu looked good. It was pretty awesome. We all got something different and I have to say; for the cost and quality - pretty darn great. Highly recommend it. I live in North Royal Oak - call an order in on my way home now and couldn't be happier with my take out!!!

Food was neither spectacular or terrible, merely so-so. On a weekend night, the place was almost empty during date hours which was interesting. Portions were large enough that we ended up taking home leftovers which reheated nicely the next day. Cost was on par with the food, so that wasn't a shocker. Service seemed slow despite the half-empty status and the waitress seemed neither friendly or rude, just seemed bored to be there. Friends we were dining with love this place but we were not impressed with it.

You can't go around messing up Pad Thai. Another strike.

The wife and I decided to walk down to Ahan Thai today and have a late lunch. I had Pad See Ew with chicken and she had Pad Thai with chicken, both with medium (2 out of 5) spice. She also had a spring roll and I had the Tom Yum soup with tofu. The starters arrived very hot -- which is good... I'd rather it be too hot than lukewarm or cold. The spring roll was good, but standard. My Tom Yum was good as well, although not spectacularly flavorful. My Pad See Ew was very good - I would rate it a 4 out of 5. The medium spice was well done, hot enough to let you know it's there, but it didn't obscure the taste and didn't make you run for the water glass. My wife's Pad Thai was okay, but not great. It was too oily, as if the cook had used too much oil in the stir fry pan and that made the noodles a soggy and dish too watery. 2 out of 5, but perhaps it's just a one time thing. The post-lunch crowd was thin, but the service was excellent and the food was delivered fast, hot, and fresh. We will go there again and do recommend Ahan Thai, but it is not our favorite Thai restaurant of all time.

Pretty good. Not my favorite but my boyfriend likes it a lot (he usually orders pad thai). Personally I would say its okay, but not my top choice. I have to admit though I have only been there twice so maybe I need to give it another shot...

After having more Thai food at different Thai places, you're down to a 2.5. Maybe a 2. Its nice, you get enough food, its cheaper than other options, but its just not that great. I had the drunken noodle this time, and it was okay. Not the same as Thai Taste, which is the same price and 10x better if you ask me.

I had many of the same suspicions as many of the reviewers...the restaurant always seems empty during date hours (6-730 pm) but for my hubby and I trying to catch a movie, that always seem great as we don't want to wait in a line to eat dinner anyway. So we went once, the food was okay, the Tom kai soup was okay (had much better in CA), but for less than $25.00 it was perfect for a 2 person meal. But we've gone back now 3 times, and each time the food has gotten better (the soup is still okay..not horrible but not the best I've had) the servings are huge, the atmosphere is intimate and cheerful, and the server is sweet, quick, helpful with decisions, and polite. It is truly a pleasurable dining experience (and although not gourmet) definitely worth a visit too now and again.

A step below Bangkok Cuisine but 3 steps above Thai on Main. The food is actually pretty good, portion size they are a bit small but it does fill you up. I was particularly upset that having a coke to drink is a glass of ice with a can of coke to have your pour in and its a $1.50 plus there is no free refill. I got Pad Se-Ew and two spring rolls. My food was cooked very good, so was my spring rolls. Overall I gave the place good stars because the food was good, they are not expensive, and it is good Thai food if you are in Royal Oak

I read all the reviews and have to agree with some of them the big bar is a little weird, service is decent but the Drunken Noodle was fantastic. the Pad Thai was so so it was a little weird, but i managed to keep eating. if the Drunken noodles weren't on the menu, it would be a 2.5 or 3.

I love this place. I live in Royal Oak and this is my favorite place to get thai food in the city. I love to mix it up and try to order different things on the menu every so often, but I can't really stray to far from my favorites... Pad Thai and Kow Pad. The waitresses have always been very nice and even though there is usually only one working at a time, they will get to you and bring your food as soon as it is ready. I used to always go to Thai Cafe until a piece of bone in chicken lodged into my gums and grossed me out to never come back. Thai on main I've visited 3 times and the wait staff wasn't that good and the food wasn't either. I've had the drunken noodles here at Ahan Thai and I'll admit I don't like it and I noticed the other Yelpers don't like it, but I am no expert on it and I know that there are other things to order on the menu before giving a great restaurant 1-2 stars. That is just being ridiculous to me.

The food was very tasty. I ordered medium fried with chicken and shrimp as well as a shrimp spring roll. The service sucked but overall the food was delicious. I will be returning next to try something new. The. Restaurant is very small and cozy.

This is my first review on Yelp, as a novice please excuse me if my review is poorly worded! That being said, I recently moved my office to Royal Oak on 4th and Main street. I am a big fan of Thai food and my first inclination was to go onto Yelp and search the Thai food closest to me. I was with a good friend and we seemed to have a good share of options. I originally wanted to go to a higher rated restaurant on Yelp, but since I was walking and the higher rated place was 5 blocks away vs Ahan Thai being practically next door to me. (it was also like -10 degrees outside so please give me a break!) I can honestly say that first the first time in forever I can actually thank the frigid Michigan Temperatures for leading me to a great restaurant. The decor of the restaurant was dark and intimate but remained classy. We immediately were greeted by the owner, a stylish guy who was very polite and welcoming. We were quickly seated and ready to go. I asked a few questions and every one of them was answered properly and with a smile. I ordered the Pad Prik and my friend ordered a shrimp dinner. Given some of the bad reviews I have seen here I was nervous to eat this food as I am a critical judge of thai cuisine. The food came out in about 10 minutes, pretty fast given the amount of people that were there and the small size of the restaurant. It was served in a hearty portion on two plates and a bowl or rice. The extra place was for mixing the food, a small amenity that many restaurants forget to provide. I took one bite and I then on knew that this place was awesome. Every bite I took, I enjoyed and because I large portions I ended up boxing it. I walked back to my office and ended up finishing the entire meal an hour later, something that I seldom ever do. My friend had the similar experience. I was puzzled as to why there were so many negative reviews and come to find out that as of a few weeks ago the place was under new management. It finally made sense. Don't let the negative reviews fool you! We ate for around $10 a piece and it was well worth it for the price and taste. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone who wants some awesome Thai food and a low price and a comfortable surrounding.

This place is literally Hell on Earth. Avoid it like the plague. WORST service in my life. RUDE waitstaff, RUDE manager, lack luster food effort, and they had no idea what plum sauce was. NOT VEGAN FRIENDLY. NOT FRIENDLY IN GENERAL. I'd rather live in a Noodles N co before even stepping foot in this place ever again.

Ok let me start by saying A) I'M ACTUALLY THAI! B) I come from 3 family run Thai restaurants and C) I hate Yelp for giving douchebags like Patrick N a voice and calling him elite because he has no fucking clue what he's talking about. First of this place does not use canned vegetables with the exception of baby corn and water chestnuts (as the owner said in another review) I've been here under 10 times and can never remember what I ordered on previous as I don't just stick to one thing but whatever it has been its never disappointed me as its kept me coming back when I'm in the area. I'm guessing masaman curry and pad see ew as these are some of my favorites. This visit was pad pak. I judge every Thai place by the brown sauce. I have to say it was very good but there was not enough of it. I ordered hot and the spice was on point. Over all I would say 4-4.5 stars but I rounded up just because. Only cons were the shrimp spring roll tastes like all grease as if the fryer wasn't hot then the first dropped it. Plus there was no shrimp till the last 2 bites. (They use one whole shrimp and wrap it in the end) and the chicken piece were super tiny. There's an abundant and I'm sure a reason behind it as everyone does something different.

Great food and service. The pad eggplant is great!!! You get a large amount of food for the price. I will definitely return to this great restaurant!

This place is garbage. I've eaten here three times and everything tastes the same. They don't use fresh vegetables it comes from the can. They use waaaay to many peas and not enough meat. I never recommend anyone go here. It's truly sad there isnt a decent thai place in down town royal oak area. The closest thai food worth dinning at is Thai Garden and the next closest is sy thai in b'ham. Don't waste your money.

Quick, friendly service. Tasty lunch specials. Lunch specials come with a delish soup & egg roll. Yummo. They have a variety of vegetarian options, including a very tasty preparation of tofu. Recommended, at least for lunch.

Excellent service. My date had never had Thai food and our waitress explained everything perfectly. Loved our meals. Since we've been back several times. The only downside is we normally order out because they do not serve beer or wine and on a Friday or Saturday night dinner i need a drink :) Definitely worth a try!

Very good food. The fresh rolls with tofu were tasty. For a main course we had C8 mild and it was flavorful with the right amount of spice. Would eat here again.

A great spot for lunch. Large portions and reasonable prices. The dishes are spiced appropriately and come out piping hot.

This is quite literally the worst Thai food I've ever had in my ENTIRE life. My sister and I ordered take out from there tonight and were so disappointed we decided to leave a review right away to ensure that nobody makes the same mistake that we did. DO NOT EAT HERE We ordered two dishes. The Pad Thai Curry which had chunks of some sort of spice-goo with a disgusting look and consistency to it. The Tofu was bland and broken. Also ordered the Pad Cashew Nuts which tasted like it was just plain soy sauce with some veggies added in. Also I'm not sure why but the cashews tasted TERRIBLE. Everything about this meal was the worst.

    (1)
  • Pat K.

Not impressed. The Pad Thai had very small pieces of chicken and the noodles were sitting in a pool of oil. Spring rolls were hot on the outside and cold inside. Don't bother.

My husband & I tried Ahan last night for carry out. We decided on them because the web site said they delivered. THEY DO NOT DELIVER!!!! They offer delivery through Restaurant Connection, not through the restaurant itself. The woman on the phone was very polite & went out of her way to check gluten free options/ingredients for us. My husband was in & out in about a minute as they had everything ready & correct in the 15 minute time frame they have us. The food was still hot. And we will order from there again, just not the Bacon Fried Rice-FR6. It was very oily & came with broccoli instead of the carrots & peas that the menu stated. Crispy Chicken Rolls-A7,were decent flavor wise. Could have been rolled a bit tighter as they were falling apart upon dipping. Tofu Pad Thai-N1 had good flavor. I ordered medium spice & it wasn't very spicy. Noodles tasted like they had been pre made because they were heavy & sticking together a bit. And too many bean shoots for me. And the Tom Yum Guy Soup-T2 my husband said was delicious! Overall it was a decent experience & we will go back to explore their menu more.

Food: My wife and I are big fans of Thai food and have tried our fair share of Thai restaurants in SE Michigan. Ahan Thai was the worst meal I've had. We tried the Chicken Pad Pak. Though it came with a good variety of vegetables, the brown sauce that the dish was cooked in was thin and flavorless. The dish was cold and the cook was stingy on the protein (chicken). Service: The waitress was nice/friendly and patient as we made our selection for our meal. Ambience: Cozy, calm atmosphere in the evening. The manager could have kicked up the heat a bit as many people despise this 'polor vortex' winter. Overall, I wouldn't go back to this restuarant because the food simply sucks.

I was happy with the food. I a not a "Thai" expert by any means, but when I went in, the girl there answered all my questions. She was patient with me while I was choosing what to eat. The Curry Noodle was very good. Fresh, and presented well. It was about what I'd expect to pay, maybe a bit more. But not outrageous by any means. Service and food was solid. I would go back.

Ordered delivery for the first time and specified that I wanted the hottest level of spice in one of my entrees (level 5). The food arrived fast, fresh and piping hot. Surprisingly, they actually made it spicy enough of my taste!!!! This usually NEVER happens when I order Thai food from other restaurants around the country. 95% of the time, I end up frustrated because my food comes out mildly hot and I end of adding the spice myself:( This Thai restaurant is skilled at preparing quality food/ingredients spicy enough and full of flavor without being too overwhelming. Ordered the Musaman Curry, Basil Beef and the Thom Yum Soup- all were delicious. Can't wait to try this place again!

I'm not really sure why this place is knocked down so low. They have one of my favorite Garlic Chicken fried rice dishes. They always meet my expectations when it comes to spice level and they were more than attentive. Then again it's been a while, but not that long. I still thoroughly enjoy this thai. Plus it's walking distance from all the cool shops in Downtown Royal Oak!

The pad thai had a gelatinous yellow sauce, the fried rice was gross and the gang gai was ok, spring rolls come with red sweet and sour sauce. I'll be sticking with Bangkok cuisine

Disclaimer - This was my first Thai food experience. I am a huge baby about spicy food. They were very understanding, and made my food as mild as humanly possible, and it was delicious. The restaurant was clean, and our waitress was nice and attentive. The decor was ok, country music was an interesting choice (though I'm a fan) it wasn't what I expected. Over all very good experience though.

I live in troy and have driven here to get take out because of how good it is. They have the best drunken noodles, I add shrimp and mixed veggies to mine. You can never go wrong with pad thai either. This if one of the 2 places places I will get a tom yum soup at.

  • K. R.

I went to Ahan Thai with friends last night. I have to say it was pretty good! I had the drunken noodles with shrimp, recommended by the waitress. Really good choice. The sauce wasn't oily and the shrimp was very well cooked. It was great to also customize your spice level. I like mine between mild and medium and it was perfect. My friends all had the pad thai. Which they all enjoyed. They also have a really great Thai tea. I'm not a fan of the whip cream version and they were very accommodating by not putting it on. My friends even ordered after trying mine. As living in San Francisco I never thought I would find great Thai again. They did a nice job.

  • Randy G.

I did a quick pop in here for a snack and tried their Fresh Spring Rolls. The rolls can be a good representation of what their other food may be like depending on freshness of the vegetables, aromatic-ness of the herbs, and the texture of the rice noodle wraps. The wraps were fresh and not dried out. They were stuffed with vegetables and noodles with them almost ready to pour out. The herbs were fresh with nice aromas when biting into it. The sauce was slightly different than other places. This one had a bit of a smokey hint to it. It was refreshing to have a slightly different flavor and to see they put their own touch into their sauce. The fresh wraps gives you a welcoming feeling to come back and try an entree now. I hope it has the same freshness and fresh herbaceous flavors the wraps had. I'm not sure if it was my timing or not, but I was the only customer in the restaurant. I hope that is not a bad sign.

My daughter and I ate here after spending time at The Creative Arts Studio just steps away. We had a very good experience - the service was good, and the food was delicious. It's a small, modernly furnished and chic-looking diner. I would highly recommend the Pad Cashew. I'll definitely stop in again.

My wife and I found this place after deciding not to wait 30 minutes at another nearby establishment. What a nice surprise. The hot-sour soup had clarity, not the usual off-putting goopiness. The spring roll was hot and steamy. Fried rice was not sticky or greasy. My main dish (pong karee?) was a nice balance of a thin yellow curry, carrots, potatoes and peas (they even gave me a choice of steamed or fried tofu - YES!). The room was cozy with cute but sturdy booths. The staff was friendly and informative. This dining experience was a nice change from the rest of the Royal Oak hubbub.

I think Ahan Thai is a solid 4 star place. I've ordered take-out here, but I also enjoy dropping in for a light lunch. The Tom Kha soup is exactly how it should be (creamy, tangy, aromatic), and the pad thai is pretty good, though sometimes could use more sauce. Their crispy veggie spring rolls are the best in the area, and I've tried their eggplant dish at lunch time, which was also great. One thing I like is that Ahan will do a curried version of the Pad Thai dish-- that's always pretty good, but order it at least medium spicy to be sure you get lots of flavor. I'd try anything at this place, but I tend to be a creature of habit so... Having lived in Chicago for many years, where there is good Thai food in every neighborhood, I'll never (likely) be 100% satisfied with what is available in our area. Despite that, Ahan goes a long way toward providing delicious options for lunch and dinner.

I really hate to give this place a bad review because the people who worked there were so nice, and the service was excellent and fast. However, the food was really bad. I've been to a lot of thai restaurants, I love the Thai curries, what I ordered tasted nothing like curry, just really salty, poorly balanced flavors, and just overall really bad. Would not recommend. Maybe if you just stick to pad Thai it's okay but anything more complicated Will probably be poorly executed. Also they don't have alcohol.

The Story of our visit to this restaurant: We get into the place and it had a pretty standard decor. We ordered Drunken Noodle, Pad Thai, and Thom Yum Soup. Thom Yum Soup - It smelled like cat food, and the shrimp looked like it too. Actually the cat food shrimp we feed our cat actually looked and smelled more appetizing. We asked them why it didn't smell right, so they took it back. It turned out they didn't have lime juice. So, basically instead if just saying they didn't have all of the ingredients ready to make the food, they just sent something out, and hoped we didn't notice. Drunken Noodle - It tasted like a mixture of maple syrup and soy sauce, it was horrible and awful. I tried to force it down, so I wouldn't be making a scene. I couldn't, it was disgusting. Pad Thai - This had no flavour in it at all, we ordered this has three out of four in terms of spicy and it had no spice, and no flavour, and the tofu was cooked wrong. Then when I pointed this out, they tried to play the whole "this is how we have been doing it for years, maybe you just aren't familiar with thai food" routine. Excuse me? I've had Pad Thai in Bangkok, I know what it's supposed to taste like, and this was a crime against the food. In total I don't want to go back. It's too bad, I had been here before and they were just mediocre, this was abysmal.

I thought this place was great. The waiter was super friendly and kept checking on us and offering more, chips, rice, drinks, etc. The portions were huge and reasonably priced. And most importantly, the food we ordered was quite good. I don't live in the area, but if I did I would certainly visit again.
